A work conceived as the artist got into the bath - the volume of his body in 24 carat gold. In the famous 'Eureka' story - it was Archimedes' discovery of irregular volumes as he lowered himself into a bath that allowed him to solve a problem he had been desperately struggling with. The king was to have a new golden crown made but it was widely known at the time that goldsmiths would charge for a certain weight of gold - though would mix in bronze or silver and keep some bronze for themselves. Proving this was impossible at the time. But once Archimedes has discovered calculating irregular volumes by water displacement and then multiplying it by the weight of the object, he was able to calculate density. Thus undoing an age old artisan scam- as long as it looks like it should, the truth of the materials can be covered up. This has become true once again in contemporary art.
