In 2021, after a two-year process, Erik van Lieshout finished a film about one of the Dutch most significant artists, René Daniëls. In the process of making this film, van Lieshout started painting again, for the first time since 2002. The paintings from Daniëls served as his main source of inspiration. Van Lieshout ended up creating numerous works in which the visual language of both artists is equally present.
